How upside-down text works

Rather than rotating an image, this tool uses Unicode characters that already look like flipped versions of each letter — for example, “e” becomes “ǝ” and “a” becomes “ɐ”. Because it’s real text, you can copy and paste it straight into an Instagram bio or a message. For a simple back-to-front effect instead, use backwards text.

Frequently asked questions

How do you flip text upside down?

Type your text and the tool swaps each character for an upside-down Unicode look-alike, then reverses the order so the whole line reads as if rotated 180°. Copy it and paste it anywhere that accepts Unicode text.

Will upside-down text work on Instagram and TikTok?

Yes. Upside-down text is made of standard Unicode characters, so it works in Instagram captions and bios, TikTok, X, Discord, and most apps that accept normal text.

Why do some characters not flip?

A handful of characters have no good upside-down equivalent, so they're left unchanged. The Latin alphabet, digits, and common punctuation all have upside-down forms.
